“ZEAKK!!!” I dropped the umbrella as I was taken in shock. He just looked at me then put his head back down on his arms “What are you doing out here?!” I asked. He didn’t answer. “ANSWER ME!!”
“Nothing,” he mumbled. He stayed there against the wall.
I was shocked. Maybe this is why he doesn’t like my hero stories, cause he doesn’t have a hero he lives on the street. “Wait so you’re a homeless bum?” he just seemed to get lower to the ground as if he wanted to disappear. He never answered me and I got fed up with it. “You pick on me in school so you don’t gotta put up with after school! You are such a jerk!!” I grabbed the umbrella and stomped away. Feeling bad I stopped and walked back to the ally and grabbed his soaked sleeve and dragged him with me.
Grabbing his bag he stumbled along with me, “What? Where are you taking me?”
“We’re going home,” I replied as we walked under the umbrella. I keep hold of his arm so he couldn’t get away from me like he already tried. He kept his hands in his pockets and head down. “What are you doing here?” he didn’t reply. “Come on tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me.”
He sighed, “I live out here.”
“WHAT!!!!!” He jumped at my loudness and backed away. “Sorry.” We walked the rest of the way in silence. We got back to my house and I opened the door and kicked off my shoes, “MOM!!” I called as I walked in and he stayed at the landing waiting to leave.
I brought mom out to see him and he stood there and dripped. “If this is the guy who teases you or not he needs our help.” Mom said and brought him a towel and started drying his head. “So who are you,” she led him into the living room and Dad brought him a change of clothes. “Go change and then we’ll talk.”
He came back out in Dad’s clothes and sat on the chair. “My name’s Zaydden Nakayama-“
“I thought your name was Zeakk!? What kind of name is Zaydden?”
“Sophia!!” my parents rounded on me.
“Sorry,” I shrunk into the couch next to Mom.
Zaydden looked at the floor. “Zeakk is my twin brother.”
“Then how come you are never with him or get off and on a the same stop, and-“ Mom glared at me, “Sorry.”
“I was never wanted so I was tossed out at a young age. Appearly Zeakk goes to the same school I do for I get called by his name and I get punished for what he does. He doesn’t even know I’m still alive probably.”
“Then why don’t you go home?” Dad asked.
“I can’t,” he looked away, “I tried that a bunch of times but they know the difference between me and Zeakk. It’s so obvious.”
“What-“
“Once my clothes are dry I’ll get out of your hair,” he got up and walked outside into the wind and sat in the plastic chair under the porch roof.
“Sophie,” Mom looked at me, “Go talk to him.”
“But,” she gave me THAT look and I walked out with him. He didn’t even look up and I grabbed some cookies before I walked outside. “So wanna talk?”
“About what?”
I shrugged, “Anything I guess.”
“You wanna know about me don’t you?”
“Me? Nooooo, no,no!!!” he looked at me, “Okay yes.”
Zaydden looked out across the yards. “My parents didn’t want more than one child so they got rid of me when I was old enough to depend on myself. So at age five I was sent away and if I ever came back they would kill me. They didn’t want the government or anyone else to know they had more than one child. And yeah, that’s basically what happened to me.”
“So that’s the past but-“
“I survived,” he glared at me and it dropped.
“Okay,” I stood and walked inside avoiding my parents. And up to me room where I wrote.
‘Sophie here, …um… I know everyone needs a hero and help but how do take care of someone else in real life? I know this isn’t my normal, but I’m wondering… Is the troll right and there are no hero’s in the world? Should Kat talk to it and find out the truth? Why could want DO something like that…. I’m confused.’
I went downstairs for dinner and Mom was trying to get Zaydden to join us for dinner. He declined, weeeeelll until Dad went outside and drug him in the house and to the table. Forcing him into a chair he took his seat. I sat across from him and couldn’t help watch him. ‘Zaydden’ had darker hair then Zeakk did! Darker eyes, paler skin, less mussel, and different marks on his skin. I never noticed the differences between them. Sure they might be twins but only at a distance. He lifted his dark eyes to me, “Can I help?” he asked.
I could feel that red line cross my face as I…um… I WAS CAUGHT!!!! ARGH! “Huh? Me…? Wha…”
“Sophia?” Mom gave me ANOTHER look.
I looked down at my haft eatened plate, “N…n…nothing…”
“Sophia,” Dad looked at me and Zaydden ate with a lost distance look.
I gave up with a sigh. Why me? “Okay, okay, I was trying to figure out the differences between the jerk and the bum.”
“Thank you for the meal,” Zaydden got up. He walked to where his stuff was in the dryer and took them out and replaced the damp stuff in his even damper backpack.
“Ohhhh,” Mom got up and went after him as Dad gave me his ‘T-W-N-C-F’ (that was not called for) look. I sunk in the chair as I could hear Mom try to talk our guest into staying. But with only thanks he walked out. “SOPHIA!!” Uh-oh. Can I disappear?
“You will never get me!” I tossed a smoke bomb to the floor, “Ummmm……. Heh heh?” I looked at my parents as they saw the paint on the rug. They looked M-A-D! “Um.. if you need me I’ll be…” I shot out of the room and up the stairs out of fear. Stupid!! I scolded myself.
